A spectacular trail through the sinharaja forest lies the Neluwa Dooli Ella, a breathtaking waterfall unusually located down south of the island. Where rains are expected more than 3/4th of a year and leaches may or may not cling onto your feet, the hike up to this waterfall and the breathtaking view from above will definitely have you clinging onto your soul.
Located 60 km away from Hikkaduwa, this is not exactly the most closest place to visit, but if you have a day to spare, this ride is proper worth while especially if time is not a luxury asset to visit the hill country as it is very rare to find a secluded waterfall admits the coastal beaches of the south.
An early departure will assure you a time well spent at the waterfall where you can bath at the waterfall and swim peacefully in the artificial pond located further below. At the end of your visit, you can enjoy a nice cup of hot tea and some local rotti freshly made at the small shop located at the entrance of the waterfall. For a very decent price you could also get your hands on some authentic kithul (palm) treacle.
If you are looking to spend sometime away from the crowds and the beaches, to enjoy some tranquil nature, this is the journey for you.
